About Therapy/ Links Frequency and Length of Sessions Sessions are usually 50 minutes, once a week. Sometimes it is in the client’s best interest to meet more frequently. This is determined through discussion with the client on a case-by-case basis. In some cases (such as couples counseling or family therapy) there may also be a need for extended sessions. These will typically be 75 – 100 minutes and the fee will be adjusted accordingly. Confidentiality Material discussed in therapy sessions is held in the strictest confidence. If I feel that it is in your best interest to consult with another professional (such as your medical doctor) I can do so only with your express written permission. The following exceptions to confidentiality need to be understood: State law requires that all mental health workers must report suspected child abuse, elder abuse, and serious threats of physical violence to another person. These laws apply whether or not the therapist believes that making a report is in your best interest therapeutically. All mental health workers are also required to take whatever steps are deemed necessary to prevent a threatened suicide. How Long Does Therapy Last? Length of therapy is determined collaboratively with the client and varies greatly. Some people come to me to address one specific problem or get through a rough period. Some are on a long-term quest for self-understanding or are seeking to change life-long patterns. Still others want ongoing support as they face challenging life circumstances. Therapy can therefore range from a few weeks to several years, according to the needs and desires of the client. Fees and Method of Payment Please call me for current fees. Fees are collected at each visit or at the beginning of the month. I am on a limited number of insurance panels, including Aetna, Value Options and Blue Shield of California. If I am not contracted with your insurance company, you will need to pay me directly for sessions. If you request, I can supply you with a “superbill” at the end of the month, which you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. If payment in full makes therapy prohibitive, I am willing to discuss a fee reduction. If my fee range is still too high I can offer referrals to therapists and clinics that offer therapy at lower fees. Cancellation Policy 24 hour notice is required to cancel a session or the full fee will be charged.
